lait is a local-first, peer-to-peer, end-to-end-encrypted issue tracker published by Nixie Tech LLC, currently at version 0.4.4. It is designed as a decentralized, offline-first alternative to Linear, targeting users and teams who want issue tracking without reliance on a central server or cloud-hosted service. The software fits within the developer tools and project management category, specifically distributed issue tracking for software development workflows, including environments where connectivity is intermittent, where data sovereignty matters, or where AI-assisted development agents need structured access to project issues. Under the hood, lait represents issues as Loro CRDT documents, which allows concurrent edits from multiple peers to merge without conflicts. These documents are synchronized peer-to-peer over iroh, which provides QUIC-based transport with NAT traversal, so peers can connect directly without a coordinating server. All project data is backed by a durable local git store, giving each participant a complete, versioned local copy of the tracker that remains fully functional offline. Changes made while disconnected can be synced later when peers become reachable. Security is handled through end-to-end encryption, with access controlled by a signed membership graph that gates which participants are authorized to read and modify the encrypted data. This means issue contents remain protected even as they move directly between peers. lait exposes three interface surfaces over a single git-backed daemon: a command-line interface (CLI) for scripting and terminal workflows, a terminal user interface (TUI) for interactive issue management, and an MCP surface that allows AI agents to interact with the issue tracker programmatically. Because all three surfaces operate over the same daemon, state stays consistent regardless of how users or agents connect. The software has one published version to date, making 0.4.4 both the current and only release listed for the project.
